NEWS - Overall ranking and Lottery

An update has been made to the overall ranking. This should be the final iteration of the experimental algorithm and it works like this.

The overall ranking is not just based on your DPS, if you want to see where you rank in DPS only then look at the various DPS leagues. The overall ranking is based on

Avg DPS x (Avg Threat% x Avg Healing) /constant

Those astute members will recognise the Threat% x Healing being the Xquotient equation. So we are measuring your ability to heal, take threat and do damage. Anyone can do great DPS if they are nannied through the event. To increase your overall rank you need to have some build diversity, for example, run a tank on another character and enter that as support, or at least take threat on your main DPS ship, or perhaps throw out heals. In the centre of the page, you see a list of figures for your character, a new stat is available, this is build diversity, and is based on your current rank. In the example shown here, the build diversity is very high. It has several levels, low, medium, high, very high, exceptional and Master of STO (nobody has the latter yet).

So, if you have great DPS but a low rank it means your build diversity is low, which is fine, you may only choose to play the DPS card, but the real masters of STO are those who can make all builds sing and they are rewarded with the highest ranks accordingly.

The Monthly Lottery is Back

After the dismal failure of the ship lottery, the monthly lottery is back and now open. You can go buy your tickets today, just please do mail me to let me know how many tickets you have put in the bank and which fleet bank you used. If you don't mail me I will assume any contributions I notice are donations and not lottery ticket entries. I can't keep tabs on 16 fleet banks on a daily basis as the reporting structure within the game is not that accurate and doesn't even give dates as to when something was deposited.
